ABSTRACT

We report the case of a female patient, aged 50, who developed cutaneous sarcoidosis pure, without finding so far, systemic involvement, demonstrating good response to treatment with systemic corticosteroids.

ABSTRACT

Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare skin eruption most commonly caused by medications. It is characterized by an acute eruption of sterile pustules and it is accompanied by an episode of fever, which regresses a few days after discontinuation of the drug that caused the condition. We report a case 23 year-old woman without history of psoriasis, that consults for fever and an acute generalized pustular eruption after amoxicillin, with clavulanic acid administration in a mononucleosis infection context, which resolved spontaneously. The microbiologic culture was negative for pathogenic germens.

ABSTRACT

The Stevens Johnson Syndrome, the Overlape Syndrome (SSJ / NET), and the Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis are clinical cutaneous mucouse forms due to drugs administration and most frequently due caused by antiepileptic. We communicate the case of a patient treated with lamotrigina for epilepsy, who presented an incipient case of Stevens Johnson Syndrome, worsened rapidly causing a Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. Nevertheless, the patient gained a satisfactory answer due to high doses of corticoids, which were given from the beginning as well as the measures and the support of the whole medical team of the hospital.

ABSTRACT

We report a case of a 23 year old male with a lateral cervical ulcer, without general involvement. Histophatological study and immunomarcation were positive to non Hodgkin Difuse Primary Cutaneous Large B-Cell Lymphoma. A revision was made about Primary Cutaneous B-Cell Lymphomas, being unusual this presentation in young people.

ABSTRACT

A review of the ticks (Acari, Ixodida) of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, was completed as a step towards a definitive list (currently indicated as 12) of such species, their hosts and distribution. The ticks: Argas miniatus (poultry), Ixodes loricatus (opossums), Amblyomma aureolatum (dogs), A. calcaratum (anteaters), A. cooperi (capybaras), A. nodosum (anteaters), A. tigrinum (dogs) (Neotropical) and Rhipicephalus sanguineus (dogs) (introduced, cosmopolitan, Afrotropical) were confirmed as present, in addition to the predominant, Boophilus microplus (cattle) (introduced, pan-tropical, Oriental). Of the further 18 species thus far reported in the literature as present in the state, but unavailable for examination: only Ornithodoros brasiliensis (humans and their habitations) (Neotropical), Ixodes affinis (deer) (Nearctic/Neotropical) and I. auritulus (birds) (Nearctic/Neotropical/Afrotropical/ Australasian) are considered likely; 13 species would benefit from corroborative local data but the majority appear unlikely; reports of A. maculatum (Nearctic/Neotropical, but circum-Caribbean) are considered erroneous; the validity of A. fuscum is in doubt. The very recent, first known report of the tropical Anocentor nitens (horses)(Nearctic/Neotropical), but still apparent absence of the tropical A. cajennense (catholic) (Nearctic/Neotropical) and the sub-tropical/temperate Ixodes pararicinus (cattle) (Neotropical) in Rio Grande do Sul are important for considerations on their current biogeographical distribution and its dynamics in South America. The state has relatively long established, introduced ("exotic"), Old World tick species (B. microplus, R. sanguineus) that continue to represent significant pests and disease vectors to their traditional, introduced domestic animal hosts, cattle and urban dogs. There are also indigenous, New World ticks (A. miniatus, O. brasiliensis, A. aureolatum, A. nitens), as both long established and possibly newly locally introduced species in the state, that should be considered as potential and emergent pests and pathogen vectors to humans and their more recently acquired, introduced domestic animal hosts; rural poultry, dogs and horses.

ABSTRACT

Neonatal thyroidectomy impairs, at 10 days of age, the [quot ]in vivo[quot ] specific activity of brain [quot ]rapidly-labeled[quot ] RNA, both in nuclei and microsomes. The labeling of ribosomal RNA, whose nuclear synthesis is not affected by hypothyroidism, appears diminished at the microsomal level, indicating an impairment of transport across the nuclear membranes. [quot ]Rapidly-labeled[quot ] RNA values did not change under the same conditions. Underfeeding causes the same changes as thyroidectomy on the labeling and transport of cerebral RNA, with the only exception of the nuclear mRNA release, which is diminished by undernourishment. The alterations of cytosolic factors cause the impairment of cerebral ribosomal RNA release in hypothyroid rats, while changes in unknown intranuclear mechanisms are responsible for the decreased transport of ribosomal RNA in undernourished rats.
